Found this gem based on Yelp reviews near Braintree, MA. So glad we did!! Delicious bowl of clam chowder with a side of coleslaw for $7.45! Fred sells FRESH seafood, and menu items to go, or a few tables available for dine in. No table service. Cold sodas available in the cooler. Parking available on side street.
I'm ashamed to say I've lived 3 blocks from Fred's for 10 years and never walked in. Not only ashamed but I'm also kicking my own ass. Cod fish and chips under $9. I've paid twice that and not been as good. This is the quintessential tiny mom and pop no frills establishment. Total local hang out spot. Drinks come from a vending machine and there's no table service. On to the food, The breading on the cod was super light and tasty. It had a subtle vinegar/sweet flavor that was very pleasant. The fish was super fresh and cooked to perfection. Perfection only achieved by repetition several thousand times over. The fries were what you'd expect, probably from a bag but.... kicked into a whole another level once the fried fish is dumped on top! The fries get all the glorious grease and fish juice, making them quite delectable. Fred's Seafood I will be back, soon and often!
$10 shrimp and chips basket was terrific. The shrimp were small but tasty and the serving was 16-18. Hot and ample fries. Served in less than 10 minutes! Very limited seating in this restaurant which sells fresh, raw seafood as well as prepared food. Nothing fancy but I was pleased with the taste, portions and price! Only negative is only drinks available are in a soft drink coke machine...no drinks over ice. :-(
Billy is retiring with his last day Friday July 2nd. The Best seafood imo. It will be missed and difficult to replace. I wish Billy well in his well deserved retirement and i will be there Friday to shake his hand and thank him in person.
